Sarah-Jane Whittaker

Solicitor

Practising Family Law was always a natural path for me to follow, as it allows me to help people through a very difficult period in their lives, something that is important to me.

I focus on obtaining the best possible outcome for my clients while ensuring they feel heard and understood. At the same time, I provide realistic advice (and manage expectations too) so that my clients have a comprehensive understanding of both the risks as well as the benefits of any proposed course of action and are able to make fully informed decisions that work for them.

Each client’s situation is entirely individual and requires specialist and tailored advice, which includes consideration of the overall strategy. I aim to provide this to each client, along with a high level of personalised attention and a proactive approach, with the objective of reaching a negotiated resolution in a fair and cost-effective manner. There are occasions when my client’s position can only be protected by issuing or responding to a court application and, in these situations, I will continue to focus on minimising cost and conflict where possible. I will also ensure that my client has strong representation and that their case is presented in a well-thought-out strategic way that maximises their chances of success.

Experience and qualifications

  • I graduated with a First-Class Law degree in 2020, before completing an LLM (Masters) in Legal Practice at BPP University.
  • Prior to my qualification as a Solicitor in 2023, I gained extensive experience acting for clients leaving cohabiting relationships, and I have a wealth of experience in this specialist area
  • In addition to my own mixed caseload of financial settlements within divorce, child arrangements and cohabiting relationships, I also work alongside Robin Charrot and Debra Lowy on complex financial cases involving businesses, trusts and international elements. I have also gained experience with Schedule 1 claims and pre-nuptial agreements.
